Abstract

This paper examines the development of structural paradigm in the
anthropology discipline in Indonesia during the period of 1979 - 2009. It looks
at cultural models used by new anthropology paradigms. There are two new
paradigms considered in the paper. One is ethnoscience from America and the
other is Levi-Strauss structuralism from France. Although the two paradigms
are different, but both use model originated from the same discipline, namely
linguistic, or phonology sub-discipline. The key difference is that French
structuralism get the model from structural phonology developed by Roman
Jakobson, while ethnoscience get the model from descriptive phonology.
